Some of the most beautiful scenery in the world is right here in my home state of Colorado. When you visit places like Telluride you begin to understand how ‘America The Beautiful’ was inspired in this wondrous state of ours. 13,000 ft. granite peaks reaching up to the heavens will take your breath away and the glorious colors at sunset just may inspire you to reach for the skies in your endeavors as well. Telluride is nestled in a box canyon of the San Juan peaks and is filled with history and legends from over a century of the lives of it’s inhabitants. Legends the likes of Butch Cassidy and his ‘Wild Bunch’ who started their bank robbing career right here in Telluride; the discovery of gold; and of course Telluride’s legendary skiing nicknamed Colorado’s white gold due to all the incredible snow that falls here in Colorado.
The Best Kept Secrets of Telluride: You can still find remnants of the old west in Telluride and the historical culture of the Ute tribes that inhabited this land. Telluride’s activities don’t end with the end of the snow season. Telluride is rich in summer activities fishing, camping, hiking, biking, festivals, a summer mecca for artists and actors, and dancers. We love visiting Telluride year round! Some of the places to visit include: Ah Haa School for the Arts; Dance in Telluride; Faraway Foundation; Sheridan Arts Foundation; Stained Glass Art Company and Gallery; Telluride Council for the Arts & Humanities; Telluride Dance Academy; The Telluride Repertory Theatre; Ciné Club. Don’t forget to visit Bridal Veil Falls and see it’s cascading beauty of water that now powers the town. Of course there is so much more!
Telluride has been the backdrop or inspiriation for several movies, commercials, and songs. The Telluride Film Festival has brought forth such greats as : John Denver, Bob Dylan, Daryl Hannah, Diablo Cody, Jerry Seinfeld, Greg Kinnear, Ed Helms, Nicolas Cage, Jason Schwartzman, Sean Penn, Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise. Don’t be surprised if you see someone famous walking down the street when you visit. Even Hollywood finds Telluride beautiful as much as those of us who live here in Colorado.
